Home Visitation

Visitation

Of all the offenders released from prison in the U.S. every year whose family units are still intact, few return to prison.

For this and many other reasons, Habilitation House and the Academy will make a concentrated effort to hold families together through a well organized visiting program.

All visiting will be open visiting with a special area for parents and other visitors with small children. PARENTS AND CHILDREN TOGETHER (PACT) will supervise this.

Residents will be able to eat with their families in the Dining Room and be able to pay for it out of their Commissary Account.

We have arranged through churches, civic clubs, volunteer groups and our own transportation contractor to provide free transportation for up to 750 friends and relatives from within an hundred fifty mile radius every Saturday and Sunday. These same groups have been contacted to help provide out-of-state residents families with transportation at discounted, sliding-scale rates for periodic visits. A twice-a-year family day will be sponsored by CCI. A Hospitality House for overnight stays by visitors will also be at no cost.

Because residents from other jurisdictions will also be utilizing Habilitation House and the Academy, top-of-the line video conferencing capabilities will be in place. This state-of-the art technology will be available to residents and family members and will be so located to provide necessary confidentiality for attorneys and client conferences.

Habilitation House and the Academy will have video conferencing capabilities that exceed the DOC/BOP/OJA standards in order to minimize transportation costs for resident court proceedings, resident related hearings, and teleconferencing as needed. Families and attorneys will also utilize it.

In-state and out-of-state residents housed in our facility shall be allowed to make outgoing telephone calls to their families, friends, and spiritual advisors. Adult residents also will be able to call government officials, courts, attorneys, and people concerned with their welfare. If such calls are collect or debit card calls, the charges billed to the called party or the card shall be no greater than those paid by called parties accepting intraLATA calls originating from facilities located in the utilizing jurisdiction. For the purpose of this response, these maximum charges are a call set-up charge of $3.00 and a per-minute rate of $.35. These charges shall be in effect for the initial term of any IGA, subject to change with renewals or extensions of the initial IGA.

The family unit is the foundation upon which the releasee will build a contributing productive life and we are committed to preserve its unity.
